April 30-Great show yesterday. Finally got this rodeo package and the Music Festival edited which took about 5 hours all together. Now all I got to do is write and send off these scripts so I can be done with this stuff for the semester.

Airshow

April 27-I wish I would have known that the Airshow was going to start so late and be so long I would not have gotten there so early. I got out to the Airport at 9 a.m. when the actual airshow didn't start until 12:30. Me and Kevin didn't leave until about 3 o'clock which means I was out there baking in the sun for about 6 hours. I slept all day after I got home. Then I spent about 2 hours editing the package today.

Onion Festival

April 24-Another hot day. Me and Kevin spent an hour at the airport interviewing pilots, two hours at the opening ceremonies, and an hour at the rodeo. I'm totally beat and I really dread getting up in the morning to shoot this airshow.

Celebration South

April 20-Man it was hot Saturday. I spent at least 5 or 6 hours out there shooting the Music Festival. I thought at least one other person from my clas would be out there but I didn't see a single one. I don't know why my other classmates don't want to take advantage of the opportunities available to us but oh well. Just hate that i got to edit all this stuff.

Born-Forty

April 17-Didn't get to use my bookstore package the other day and the Celiac package still didn't go right. Atleast I already have a package ready to go on the next show. I spent two hours shooting this alternative group called Born-Forty at a cafe tonight.

Operation Statesboro Blues

April 14-Man today was awesome. I got up this morning and spent half an hour interviewing Mr. Mehmet, then I was sent to get the drug bust press conference and was able to get interviews with an ATF Special Agent and the Police Chief. I spent an hour at the Municipal building doing that then two hours discussing the package with Dr. De Bonis and editing the package. This is going to be a great show tomorrow.

Bookstore begins

April 9-I have an interview to do the bookstore package on Monday but I spent atleast an hour and a half trying to get some b-roll footage for the story. Seems like everytime I get some free time to shoot, it wants to rain but I think I got enough for now. I can always get a little more next week.

Blue-White

April 6-I was out at the football field from 10am til the game ended around 3:30pm on Saturday. I got tons of footage of the fans, the Little Eagles game, the actual Blue-White game, and anything else i could think of shooting. I also used the camera for about an hour earlier today to get some nature footage for Professor Davis.

April 3- Man that sucked. We went from doing our best show to stinking up the joint. I hate that my package had some hiccups but I spent an hour in the lab fixing all that this morning.

Mar 31-Finally finished editing my package. I had to go back and shoot my outro and try to get a little more b-roll for my story. I used about two hours before class to do that and another hour for editing. That's not even counting the research I had to do in order for me to write this package. Those facts and figures will look nice on the overall package. I would count at least an extra two hours for research and writing that I did over the weekend.

Mar 27- Man I lucked up on a great story. The secretaty at the Averitt Art center was telling me about her daughter who has celiac disease and it hit me. That would make a great story so I got her information and I met her for an interview. I talked to them about an hour then I still had time to capture and start editing for about an hour. I may still do a reader on the Celebration South festival.

Mar 25-Time to get right back to it. We have another show next week so i got to get on the ball. I was out researching for about four different stories today. Went to city hall, the chamber of commerce, Averitt Art center, and the Visitor's center.
I know i put in atleast two hours today.

Vacation Time!!

Mar 12-Well the show went pretty good yesterday. I'm still a little disappointed with my package but we were told it was the best show that's been done so I can't feel too bad about it. I spent 4 or 5 hours shooting for the digitial conversion package and about an hour and a half shooting the restaurant management follow-up package. I've become pretty good at editing so it only took me a two and a half hours to get that done. Oh well, vacation time!!!!

March 10-I was not able to get any meaningful interview or sound bite for my story so I just made do with what I had. It didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would but I'm disappointed because I know it could be way better. I need to work on my narration. My packages sound okay but I could speak with better clarity. I hope that VOSOT I worked on goes well since I won't be the one trying to read it.

It's Not Converting

March 6-I've got some footage but I keep getting pushed off on so many interviews. I was supposed to talk to a guy at Northland Cable but every day I have checked on him he has been extremely busy "putting out fires" as he says. He said there was something going wrong with Channel 97. Sounded a little intriguing but I doubt there's a story there. I found a guy named Nathan who has an antenna and actually uses it but he was too busy to talk. I'm hoping one of these guys will be available by Monday cause if not then I'll just have to put it together some other way. One good thing is that I got in touch with a woman from the Nielsen Company who said she was going to email me the updated numbers for my story so at least I will have that.

Change of Plans

Mar 3-I may have to change the story I was working on because another story caught my eye. I decided I wanted to do a package on the digital conversion and how it either will or won't affect many people. There is a lot of ignorance as to what the digital conversion is about or what you need to do to be prepared for it even though stations have been warning about it for a while now. I hope my research can help shed light on the subject.

Feb 26-The one thing I like about doing the story I did is that it gave me leads I could use for my next story. I had initially planned to start working on my bookstore feature but I pushed it back when I found out that there had been some new businesses opening up in the area. This helps paint a dfferent economic picture than the one I showed in the first package. The Chrysler dealership and French Cafe are reopening so I will be doing a story over that. I also found out today that a new restaurant is opening on Fair Road where Bojangles used to be.

Feb 23-I got a lot of compliments on the package I did today, even a high five from one of my classmates. Too bad some of the packages that other people did were messing up. It will be another week before my package gets to air on channel 97. In a way this is a good thing since I will get to re-shoot my two stand-ups. I was a little blurry in both of them. I also get to start on my next package.

Feb 19-I love the way this package came out. I see a few things that I could correct if I had more time but I believe it's ready to air on Monday. I tried to make it look as professional as possible with charts, maps and quotes. I can't wait to see it put on the show Monday.

Feb 17- I found the Chrysler place but it wasn't what I needed. I needed to capture footage of an empty lot but they have already started putting cars back in the lot. Only thing I could do was get a picture of the sign and hope that will do. I also got footage of Viracon and Briggs & Stratton. Now the most dreaded part which is writing this package.

Busy Work

Feb 13- Man yesterday was a busy day. I was all over Statesboro trying to get information for this economic story. I went to city hall, the French Cafe, Pizza Inn, Hugo's, the Statesboro Herald, the Department of Labor, and the Chamber of Commerce meeting. I also talked to the head of the Dept of Labor's Communication Dept in Atlanta using my anytime minutes for about half an hour. I better get an A+ in this class. Now I've just got to find the Chrysler place.

Feb 9-We have our first show later this week and I still haven't figured out what to write for my script. Guess that's what I will be working on tonight. Still trying to get this package on the economy up and running but information hasn't been very forth coming. I speak to the tax person in City Hall on Thursday so I hope she can provide me with the information that I need.

Feb. 5th-I've started researching for my next story for ENN. I have no clue how I'm going to write this story. The Dept of Labor hasn't been very helpful in helping supply the layoff and business closing numbers I need for my story. The city of Statesboro hasn't been very forthcoming either. I'm going to keep at it though cause I think this would make a great story for our newscast.

Hair Cut

Feb 2nd-Cut off my hair. Getting ready to do this journalism thing so I had to let it go. Actually did my first package for ENN and I hated the part where I had to do my stand-up. My hair looked horrible. Not only that I looked very unprofessional. Hope the next one turns out better.
